New Alphabet Photography

This last year or so there's been 2 reasons to make some more alphabet photography presents... a baby and a wedding!

My best friend got married this August so of course I made her an alphabet photography of her new surname to commemorate the day. All photos taken by me on my travels, from the village next to us to New York for these images. Her and her husband are total plane geeks like us so I had to include an aircraft letter somewhere in their surname, a propellor Y was the perfect choice.
Seeing as we moved before I got this black frame made I had to search out a new framer. After a false start I found a cracking local, little framers a few villages over who managed to get this made up for me super fast and at a reasonable price.

Another friend had a little girl last November so I made her an alphabet photography for her bedroom. Managed to sneak in another aircraft letter using an exhaust for an O. The Y is from a propellor at USS Intrepid, New York.

Can't wait for the next opportunity to make some more as these are such cool gifts to give and so far everyone has totally loved them.

Alphabet Photography Presents

My alphabet photography came out again for presents this christmas as well..

I did our nephew's name for my boyfriend's sister and her husband. I changed the white pegs that came with the frame as it looked a little lacklustre, even after I picked the red pegs he decided to change them just as we were wrapping the frame so in the end it was given with blue pegs.

For my dad and his wife I did their surname. Once again I swapped the pegs but this time just for larger plain wooden pegs as the original ones just looked too small.
On the back of each photo I've written where and what year I took the photo so the recipients can see where we've been... I think it adds a nice personal touch to the photos rather than the shop selected alphabet photography letter sthat tell you nothing about them at all.

Alphabet Photography Presents

For christmas we decided to do a load more alphabet photography as presents for some of the family... sounded a lot easier in our heads than it actually turned out to be.

I refuse to use photos downloaded from the internet or borrowed from others so we had a lot of scouting around to do to find letters and come up with creative ways to make the letters we just couldn't find anywhere out on our travels.

On the back of each photo I write when and where we took the photo so the recipients can trace our travels.
The longest name to do... Alderson... made using letters from Windsor, High Wycombe, Amsterdam, Marbella and Peurto de la Duqeusa. Total nightmare with this one after having the frame specially made, had it couriered up at christmas so we didn't have to fly with it and the glass got smashed in transit! How hard is it to find replacement glass at such short notice a few days before christmas, thankfully a little local glazier saved us on that one...never again shall we use a courier for something like that no matter how well we package it they won't respect it!

Would you believe the shortest word we chose to do was actually the hardest to source letters for?! As you can see we went creative for the 2 N's and made them using books and knives in our house. The A was even local too, so we never had to leave High Wycombe to make this one.

Smith...made using letters from Amsterdam, Bourne End and Cookham. Nice easy size frame to get hold of too!

Ackroyd...made using letters from Windsor, Marbella, Amsterdam, Brooklands museum and High Wycombe.

These all went down a treat and have pride of place hanging in the houses of our family, been sent photos of them all in their new homes.

If anyone wants one of these made please contact me... I'm up for any challenge of words for any occasion.

More friends getting married...

This seems to be the year everyone is getting married, been to more weddings and receptions this year than in my life up till now!

This time it was the wedding of a couple of my OH's school friends.

The idea for the alphabet photography surname presents actually came about when we got invited to this wedding early this year... we just happened to go to another friends wedding before this one and thought the surname frame was an awesome unique present that we made for them ourselves...

This wedding is the reason I'm now hooked on hunting out letters everywhere we go. Got quite a little collection of letters now so hopefully I can start taking orders on them soon... if only I could find some Cs, Ds, Gs and Ps!

Wedding gifts for our friends

Back in August 2 of our friends got married so I took to making them a personalised card and gifts to match their colourscheme. The wedding colourscheme was sage green so I took the green as the main colour for the card and added sage ribbon to the flags.

I'm in love with my SLR camera it's still a pretty new toy to me so I loved playing with it to make this present! Inspired by the alphabet photography we bought ourselves earlier in the year I decided to give it a go myself to make really personal presents.
All of the 'letter' photos have been taken on our travels. Our friend's surname is OAK, k really is not an easy letter to find! The O was taken in Amsterdam, the A in Puerto Banus and the K in Sabinillas, Spain.

Last but not least I made them a pair of celebration flags. Just married on the front with a sage green bow, their names and the date on the back. Love how versatile these flags are, I think I'd have them as part of the guest favours should I ever need them :)
