Butterfly Canvasses

Been a little bit busy this last week getting myself all prepared for the craft market (see previous post) so I haven't had much time to be blogging, sorry!

Thought I'd share with you my new, improved version of my Butterfly Canvas...

Learnt a few things from the first attempt... don't use the same flower template with 2 different colour inks if you can't wipe it clean... coat in enamel not modpodge to seal the ink work in...

Clairabella (the craft shop running the market) have asked if I'd like to try selling these in their shop, so seeing as these 3 didn't sell today I've dropped them in to see how it goes instore...

I just love these canvasses, they got a lot of compliments today and I've had some lovely feedback from people I've given them to as gifts... hopefully people will snap them up in the shop or order different colours from me...
Once again far too many butterflies were punched out so there's plenty spare for more canvasses to be made in the future or added to other items... I foresee butterfly cards in the very near future!

Butterfly canvas

Less than a week till the big move and here's another piece of new artwork to go on display somewhere in the cottage. I got some new toys on my last trip to hobbycraft and this canvas let me use a few of them :) Not sure where the whole butterfly obsession has come from recently, but now I'm punching them out of every scrap of paper I can find.
So I've used:
  • Small box canvas
  • Tonic studios butterfly punch
  • Flower stencil (made from an old birthday card)
  • 2 x pink inks
  • silver ink
  • mod podge
  • variety of black, pink, white, grey scrapbook paper
  • clear patterned vellum
  • superstrength paper glue

I started by punching out 40 butterflies from my pile of paper and vellum scraps ( got a little carried away actually and punched dozens more out of every colour pretty paper scrap I came across lol). Then I turned to my canvas and used the stencil to ink out the flower background, I'd laid the butteflies on the plain canvas earlier and it looked bland then i found the old card for the flower stencil. After letting the ink dry i applied a coat of mod podge as the silver ink has a habit of smudging and rubbing off on things, then i had to wait overnight before i could add my butterflies.

I'm quite chuffed with the result

, now i just need to decide which room to hang it in when we get ourselves all moved and sorted :)

Dog canvas

Here's the second canvas that I've made... I used the tissue paper canvas technique found here... though sadly the photo does show the outlines of some of my tissue paper but that may be as I had a double layer on one sheet of the tissue didnt realise till i'd glued it :( so it's meant to look like a graffiti wall scene.
I've used:
  • 5x7 canvas
  • Permanent inks and watercolour pencils
  • PVA glue
  • Tissue paper
  • PB 'Just next to you!' stamp
  • Swirl corner stamp
  • Heart doodle and heart swirl stamps
  • Swirl flower stamp
  • 2 little red primas and pearl bead centres
